BBQ Veg Ideas Straight from the Garden
Skip the sausages - build a BBQ centrepiece straight from the garden! This season is bursting with veggies all perfect for the grill.
With so much variety and potential, one doesn't need meat to make a BBQ spectacular - here are some of our top grilling combinations that will have you and your guests salivating:

- Courgettes: The trick with courgettes is to cook them hot and quick to avoid a soggy disaster. Pair charred courgettes with lemon & sea salt; grill long slices and roll around chunks of feta; serve grilled rounds with dukkah or pop them on skewers with halloumi.
- Sweet corn: Grilled sweet corn slathered in butter, salt, pepper and smoked paprika is utterly divine… but that's not all! Combine grilled cobs with a chilli and lime topping, a garlic and parsley mix or a miso and maple syrup glaze. Mmmmmm!
- Capsicum: With the right amount of cooking, capsicum maintains it's crunchy texture but takes on a smokey flavour that is unrivalled! Top grilling ideas are: popping slices on skewers with red onion, or stuffing with herbed rice, lentils or a tomato and courgette mixture. Grill with the lid on for maximum flavour.
- Eggplant: For the best flavour and texture, salt eggplant before grilling to reduce bitterness. Drizzle with plenty of olive oil and toss on the grill. Think slices do best, and they're delicious served with yogurt and parsley, a tahini drizzle or fresh tomatoes and basil.
- Tomatoes: Are you a fresh or cooked tomato lover? Or both?! Follow up question: have you tried grilled tomatoes? Because my goodness, they're incredible! You can grill whole cherry tomatoes, whole medium red tomatoes and tomatoes on skewers! Combine grilled tomatoes with basil to create a delightful bruschetta.
For something a little different, try grilling halved lettuce heads; charring spring onions; BBQ-ing beans in a cast iron pan - even grilling peaches!
The options are almost endless!
For some inspirational flavour combinations, we'd recommend:
- Basil with tomatoes (of course!!)
- Coriander with corn
- Parsley with eggplant
- Mint with courgettes
Just remember to only add fresh herbs at the end, once the grilling is complete.
