Delivery Driver, Farm hand
He is the guy you’ll see behind the wheel of the delivery truck: having recently moved to the South Island with his family (his wife is, in fact, Dominique’s sister, which makes him part of the Streamside family in more ways than one!), we quickly snapped up this capable, strong and hardworking bloke before he got claimed by some other business with a shortage of human resources.
Packhouse Manager, tractor wiz
Penny is the practical, logical and realistic member of the harvest crew: she keeps the others grounded and always has a solution to every problem encountered. Penny is an absolute machine out in the paddock- the vegetables don't stand a chance against her fleshing knife and dexterous fingers. Even more impressive is her skill at washing the freshly picked produce: the crates barely arrive on the wash pad before they are whisked away, cleaned up and in the packing shed. She has now progressed up the ranks to Packhouse manager and is making sure all the orders are packed with precision and out the door on time!
Farmer, fixer of all things broken, co-founder
Logan, who is rarely anywhere without his radio earmuffs, is one of the veteran vegetable farmers in our midst. He manages a number of different operations including planting, general farm manager, and also holds the somewhat unreasonable title of farm grease monkey.
Dominique is the human version of a Swiss army knife; she manages the entire operation from the office doing accounts, talking to customers, sending out emails. Basically, ensuring we have a reason to go out and pick all the vegetables. The desk work doesn't appear to have inhibited her lightning quick harvesting skills, so it always comes as a relief when we have a big day and Dominique comes out into the paddock to assist.
One of those people who is just good at everything they do, Matt picked up harvesting, washing and packing super quickly. Having recently finished a course at the BHU (Biological Husbandry Unit) in Lincoln, working on the farm is the perfect way for Matt to put all the theory into practice – and we certainly have tested his practical skills: hours of weeding and picking fiddly crops have proved his resolve is robust!
Having Roberto on the team has further increased our already culturally diverse group. Being Italian, we always love hearing his traditional Mediterranean recipe ideas (however, it’s never a good idea to ask such questions when lunchtime is hours away!). Having a keen passion for gardening and growing amazing, nutrient dense foods, Roberto’s enthusiasm is invigorating for us all.
Longtime school friends Lilly has been a part of the team for years. She was the first official employee of Dominique and Logan and helped harvest once a week. After moving to help out at the market and then taking a sabbatical she is back and now more involved than ever.
Lucy is the lovely lady behind the table at Riccarton (Dean's Bush) farmers market every Saturday morning. Rain hail or shine she’ll always be there with her bright big smile and helpful hints about how to best cook the vegetables on offer. Lucy also regularly comes out to work on the farm one day a week so she sees the entire process from start to finish. Another lover of funky shaped vegetables, Lucy also possesses the inordinate ability to find odd-ball vege…also rotten potatoes, which, coupled with exceptional aim, makes for a deadly combination.
Farm crew, transplanting fanatic, and lover of odd shaped vegetables
Paige, as well as being a great harvester, acts as the team locator beacon. Her laugh can be heard from up to 800 meters away (tried, tested and proven). Always on a mission to keep things light, Paige will be the first to crack a joke, and the last to stop laughing (loudly). When out harvesting, Paige never fails to get excited when coming across funky shaped vegetables: human-esque carrots, love-heart yams, bulbous potatoes… you name it, she'll love it!
Darryl is by far the most generally accomplished member of the team. Having worked in hundreds of different career roles he knows everything about anything! Darryl works part time on the farm and spends most of his time studying a Certificate in Organic Primary Production at the BHU in Lincoln, whilst somehow still finding time to do programming so that the farm has its own personal online shop.
